A brand new attraction taking visitors to the heart of racing at Silverstone will open on Friday 25th October. This £20m project – ‘The Silverstone Experience’ features memorabilia and stories from the past and present of motor racing.
Visitors will be able to see the Suzuki RG500 XR27 ridden by Barry Sheene in his iconic 1979 battle with Kenny Roberts at Silverstone, as well as a set of his leathers and helmet. Contemporary is racing covered with the Suzuki Moto GP bike that Maverick Viñales took to victory at the 2016 British Grand Prix, while early racing history is featured with a set of Stuart Graham leathers and a Norton-Watsonian sidecar that won the 1952 World Sidecar Championship with Cyril Smith.
Located at the circuit, the attraction features scores of interactive elements, with visitors able to have a go at setting up a racing bike in the Tech Lab. They can also experience the ultimate lap of Silverstone in the immersive special-effects cinema. Located in a newly-restored World War II Wellington Bomber hangar, The Silverstone Experience tells the story of the circuit’s medieval roots and explores how the corners got their names.
Prices start from just £20 for an adult ticket when booked in advance. You can find out more and buy tickets at www.silverstone-experience.co.uk
